Congressman Secures Funding for Nevada Wastewater Treatment System

July 2, 2007

U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-Carson City) secured $500,000 for the improvement of the wastewater treatment plant for the City of Fallon, Nevada. The funding was included in the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2008 (H.R. 2643) which passed the U.S. House of Representatives.

“This water treatment system is essential to the health and safety of the residents of Fallon. I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with Mayor Tedford to help provide the city with the necessary resources it needs to improve their critical infrastructure,” said Heller.

The City of Fallon was required to construct an arsenic treatment facility to remove naturally occurring arsenic from the City’s drinking water supply. Due to the substantial costs of the facility, it placed a severe financial burden on the city and its residents not allowing repairs to other city infrastructure. These funds will go for repairs or replacement of aging infrastructure to the wastewater treatment system.

“My thanks to Congressman Dean Heller who has secured funds that will help the City replace the Fifth Street Sewer Lift Station which has posed an ongoing problem and risk to the City which has reached criticality,” said Mayor of Fallon Ken Tedford, Jr.
