Virginia Wastewater Treatment Plant Receives Top Award
Hanover County, Va.’s wastewater treatment plant in Ashland has received the prestigious Platinum Award from the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies (AMSA), Richmond.com reported. Hanover County was one of only 19 local governments nationwide that had facilities earning the Platinum Award.
The AMSA Platinum Award is given only to those facilities that achieve 100 percent compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for five consecutive years. NPDES permits establish strict limits controlling pollutants being discharged into waterways such as streams, rivers and lakes.
"Protection of the environment continues to be a top priority for Hanover County," Frank W. Harksen, Jr., Hanover’s director of Public Utilities told Richmond.com. "We are proud to have our accomplishments recognized nationally and of our team for making such accomplishments possible."
