WEF Announces Disinfection 2005 Conference
The Disinfection Committees of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the International Water Association (IWA) are sponsoring a sixth annual conferenceto be held on February 6—9, 2005 in Phoenix Marriott Mesa, Mesa, Ariz. The conference will provide a forum for water quality professionals concerned with disinfection needs and technologies. It will focus on all aspects of the disinfection of water, wastewater, reuse water and biosolids. Topics include: pathogen detection and treatment, microbial risk assessment, vulnerability assessments and regulatory perspectives, among others. A special plenary session, hosted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and featuring Dr. James M. Hughes, MD, director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID & CDC), will address global emerging infectious diseases and how they affect water quality.
The synergy of disinfectants/disinfection techniques and approaches continue to change as our understanding of pathogens and disease transmission increase. Water quality professionals need to be prepared to deal with the latest technologies, advancements and regulatory issues in order to adequately address these needs to ensure the preservation of public health.
