Nov. 26, 2008
Design-Build Excellence Award highlights efficiency of design/build approach

CH2M HILL has been awarded the 2008 National Design-Build Excellence Award by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) for the Bonita Springs East Water Reclamation Facility in Florida. It was granted in the water/wastewater category.

Bob Bailey, CH2M HILL Water Business Group president, said, “The Bonita Springs East Water Reclamation Facility is a great example of the kind of high-caliber projects CH2M HILL delivers in partnership with our clients. We are honored on behalf of our firm and Bonita Spring Utilities to have DBIA bestow this award upon us and recognize CH2M HILL’s advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery and ability to find unique solutions for project challenges.”

The Bonita Springs East Water Reclamation Facility demonstrates the efficiency and effectiveness of the design/build approach. Its state-of-the-art advanced technologies include membrane bioreactors, a centralized sludge drying system and automation to facilitate community growth, promote potable water savings with high-quality reclaimed water for irrigation and provide a high-quality Class AA dried solids for fertilizer. In addition, Bonita Springs Utilities is now better positioned to meet more stringent regulatory requirements in the future. When the plant was substantially completed in December 2006, it was the largest membrane bioreactor plant commissioned in Florida to date.

The DBIA is an association of leaders in the design and construction industry utilizing design-build and integrated project delivery methods to achieve high-performance projects. Each year project submissions from around the country are judged by a jury of industry experts, including DBIA members, owners and design-builders. A select few are awarded a National Design-Build, Design-Build Excellence or Design-Build Merit Award in one of 13 categories, including the industrial/process sector, the water/wastewater sector, developer and best overall.
