New North Las Vegas, Nev., facility utilizes SRPE for its sanitary sewer system

In January 2004, the City of North Las Vegas’ city council authorized an in-depth analysis on wastewater treatment options for the municipality, and then, later that year, began planning for construction of a new wastewater reclamation facility. Construction of this facility—an approximately $321.3 million project—was completed in fall 2011.

The City of North Las Vegas’ Water Reclamation Facility is a state-of-the- art facility that uses submerged membrane bioreactor technology to produce extremely clear, reclaimable water. The facility currently manages an average daily flow of 17 mgd. Staffed with highly trained personnel, the facility is operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year through an extensive computerized operational system.

The City of North Las Vegas worked with CH2M HILL, a global firm, on the design of the site’s infrastructure. CH2M HILL is an engineer-procure-construct company that offers a wide spectrum of expertise and services for various industries and government agencies. When it came to designing the sanitary sewer aspect of the project, CH2M HILL made the decision to utilize DuroMaxx, a steel-reinforced polyethylene pipe product offered by Contech Engineered Solutions.

DuroMaxx provides the lightweight, low-cost structural advantages of traditional high-density polyethylene with none of its disadvantages. With a smooth inner wall for outstanding hydraulic capacity, DuroMaxx provides the necessary properties for long-term service and performance in the most demanding of environments.

By utilizing the DuroMaxx product, CH2M HILL and the City of North Las Vegas created a state-of-the-art sanitary sewer solution that was appropriate for the new, state-of-the-art Water Reclamation Facility.
