Lawmakers in California recently passed legislation that would extend funding to six water recycling projects in the San Francisco Bay area, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The $32 million of funding would assist projects treating wastewater for irrigation and municipal uses at schools, golf courses and parks. Cities affected include Concord, Dublin and Palo Alto.
The bill was passed in the House by a 241-163 vote.
Seven communities in the Bay Area already have water-recycling projects, including Pittsburg and San Mateo. The new projects are estimated to create 3,500 jobs and save 2.6 billion gal of water per year in the region.
California Democratic Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein are sponsoring companion legislation in the Senate, the newspaper reported.
