Three Severn Trent Services offices and a wastewater treatment facility operated by the company have received an international health and safety accolade from the British Safety Council, one of the world’s leading occupational safety, health and environmental organizations. In the U.S., facilities receiving the award were the Severn Trent Services sales and manufacturing office located in Colmar, Pa., with more than 100 employees; and the Glen Cove, N.Y. Wastewater Treatment Works, a treatment plant operated by the company. In the United Kingdom, award winners were the Severn Trent Services Ltd. sales and manufacturing office in Minworth, which employs 84; and Integra Utility Services in Derby, a meter installation division of Severn Trent Services, which employs 192.
Also receiving recognition was the Strensham Water Treatment Works in the U.K. operated by Severn Trent Water, Ltd.
Each facility won the coveted Five Star Health and Safety Audit Award following a rigorous inspection. The audit can help organizations reduce accidents and improve productivity by identifying their health and safety strengths and weaknesses. It is estimated that long-term illness or disability-related workplace health and safety issues cost U.S. and U.K. industry tens of billions of dollars in lost productivity annually.
Following a comprehensive safety evaluation from world-class auditors, organizations are given star ratings from one to five to indicate the effectiveness of their safety programs. Action plans are provided to help companies reduce their insurance premiums and continually improve their programs.
