Officials at the Mattabassett District in Cromwell, Conn., will welcome state and local elected officials on Wednesday, June 13 at 9 a.m. for a groundbreaking ceremony announcing the start of a full renovation process at its water pollution control facility.
The $93 million project is expected to take three years to complete and will include a full renovation of the existing facility, as well as an upgrade to its nitrogen removal process. Construction will be done by Torrington-based general contractor C.H. Nickerson & Co., a firm that specializes in water and wastewater treatment facility construction.
The Mattabassett District currently serves 170,000 ratepayers in Cromwell, New Britain, Berlin and parts of Middletown, Rocky Hill, Newington and Farmington, Conn. During construction the facility will remain fully operational even during the extensive renovation work.
