Atlas Copco Compressors to Launch Blower Technology at WEFTEC 2015

Sept. 21, 2015

Atlas Copco Compressors will introduce new low-pressure blower technology at the 2015 Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC). Hosted from Sept. 26 to 30 at McCormick Place in Chicago, WEFTEC is the wastewater industry’s flagship trade show.

Atlas Copco’s exhibit will be located at booth No. 634 and will feature the launch of new blower technology, as well as showcase the ZS range of oil-free screw blowers for the wastewater industry. Representatives will conduct presentations on the new technology during two hospitality events on Sept. 28 and 29 at 3 p.m. at the Atlas Copco booth. Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

In the wastewater treatment process, millions of bacteria feed on organic waste, breaking it down into carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water. Because these bacteria require oxygen as part of this process, large quantities of air are blown into aeration tanks. Digester gas, a byproduct of the process, can also be upgraded and compressed to generate electricity. Because air and gas blowers typically represent up to 70% of the total electricity costs at water treatment facilities, many facilities that incorporate the latest technologies are able to reduce these costs by an average of 30%.

The ZS range of oil-free screw blowers are 40% more energy efficient than tri-lobe blowers and comply with ISO 8573-1 Class Zero certification for 100% oil-free air, completely eliminating the risk of oil contamination. With the launch of the range in 2009, and through innovations in blower technology and investments in Houston Service Industries and its range of energy efficient high-speed turbo blowers, Atlas Copco offers a range of blower technologies for the wastewater industry. In addition to wastewater treatment, other industries with blower applications that can benefit from the latest energy-saving technologies include pneumatic conveying, power generation, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, pulp and paper, textiles, cement and general manufacturing.
