Aqua Indiana, Inc. announces purchase of Western Hancock Utilities

Aqua Indiana, Inc. (Aqua), Indianapolis, recently announced the purchase of Western Hancock Utilities, LLC, a wastewater utility serving the area around Mt. Comfort in the western portion of Hancock County in Indiana.

“Western Hancock Utilities has well-constructed treatment and collection facilities, and ample capacity to be able to serve additional commercial and residential customers in this fast-growing area of central Indiana,” Aqua Vice President Tom Bruns said. “We are excited about the opportunity to be part of the economic growth and development in the vicinity of the I-70 and Mt. Comfort Road interchange in Hancock County. Aqua looks forward to working with Hancock County elected officials and local developers in providing wastewater service to this growing area.”

Western Hancock Utilities currently provides wastewater utility service to approximately 50 business establishments and numerous residential developments representing the equivalent of 2,500 people near Mt. Comfort Airport. The company, which has been in existence for more than 10 years, will be managed out of Aqua Indiana’s regional office in northeast Indianapolis.

Aqua Indiana is a subsidiary of Aqua America, Inc. and currently provides water and wastewater service to approximately 110,000 residents across the state of Indiana. Aqua America is the largest U.S.-based publicly traded water and wastewater utility holding company in the country, serving approximately three million residents in 13 states.
