American Water Appoints Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs

American Water, the nation’s largest private water company serving over 18 million people, announced that Laura Monica has been appointed senior vice president of Corporate Communications and External Affairs. Monica will be responsible for all internal and external communications, including government relations, media relations and corporate responsibility. She will also lead the marketing and advertising strategy while overseeing all associated implementation activities.

“Laura is a proven, talented professional with extensive experience and effectiveness in building brand reputation and business value,” said Don Correll, president and CEO of American Water. “Her background servicing regulatory agencies and regulated utilities makes her uniquely qualified to lead American Water’s overall communications strategy.”

For the past 15 years, Laura has been president and founder of High Point Communications, an award-winning strategic communications firm in Bow, N.H. Prior to forming High Point, she was head of corporate communications for a financial services firm and has had experience working in corporate finance. Laura holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public administration from the University of New Hampshire. Monica will replace Daniel Kelleher ,who recently retired, but will continue to lead American Water’s condemnation defense activities as a consultant.
