American Water Works Co. Inc., the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced today it has made several changes in its leadership team.
Kellye Walker, the company’s former senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, has expanded her role and been named American Water’s new chief administrative officer (CAO) and general counsel. In this role, Walker will continue to lead the company’s legal function, as well as oversee human resources, communications and information technology services.
Mark Strauss, formerly the president of American Water Enterprises, has been named American Water’s senior vice president of corporate strategy and business development. Strauss will work with American Water’s president and CEO, Jeff Sterba, and the company’s senior team on overall strategy and major growth efforts for its regulated and competitive operations.
Sharon Cameron, president of American Water Resources, which is the company’s homeowner services business, will become president of American Water Enterprises. She will lead its operations and will work closely with Strauss on new non-regulated business development opportunities.
“The CAO and the corporate strategy and business development roles are both new to American Water,” said Sterba. “Both are designed to increase alignment across our functions and better position the company to deliver its goals. We have some very talented leaders at American Water and I believe this structure gives them even more of an opportunity to contribute to the company’s success.”
The company also announced that its former business development lead, Bill Patterson, and communications lead, Laura Monica, will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.
