When inaccurate flow measurement and recurring performance issues compromised operations, a wastewater treatment plant needed a more reliable way to monitor influent flow in a partially filled open channel. The facility replaced an outdated Venturi-based system with electromagnetic flowmeters designed specifically for partially filled pipelines, enabling accurate flow measurement across a wide range of operating conditions. The improved measurement data allowed operators to continuously document influent flow, comply with reporting requirements, and automate chemical dosing based on actual wastewater loading rather than estimates. As a result, the plant gained greater process control, responded more effectively to fluctuating flow rates, and reduced unnecessary chemical consumption, supporting both operational efficiency and long-term cost savings.
