A past chairperson of the Geological Society of America Hydrogeology Division, Bair served as its 23rd Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lecturer in 2000. He was elected fellow of the Geological Society of America and in 2013 received the George B. Maxey Distinguished Service Award.
