Summary

Aging wastewater infrastructure presents ongoing challenges for utilities seeking to prioritize limited resources and extend asset life. The session will provide practical guidance on risk-based approaches for prioritizing wastewater collection pipe assets for condition assessment and rehabilitation planning using trenchless technologies.

Topics covered will include advancements in conducting assessments of gravity sewer assets with video inspection, including the use of the NASSCO’s Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP) assessment methodology, its limitations and the use of automated defect recognition technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of inspections.

The webinar will conclude with a review of common rehabilitation technologies for gravity systems, with comparisons to pressure applications where appropriate. It will also highlight decision trees and the benefits of risk-based assessment and rehabilitation planning for both small- and large-diameter pipe assets.

Participants will leave the session with practical insights and additional resource recommendations to help them make smarter decisions about maintaining and repairing sewer systems. They will learn how to apply risk-based methods and the latest video and AI technologies to improve pipe inspections and choose the most effective repair options for different types and sizes of pipelines.
