Stantec to Restore 60-Year-Old Boston Outfall Line

Aug. 23, 2006

Stantec has been awarded a contract by the Boston Water and Sewer Commission for design and permitting in connection with the restoration of a 60-year-old outfall pipeline in Boston.

The restoration will remove restrictions at the outlet of the pipe and blockages in the pipeline that have built up over time, helping reduce future backups and added surcharges to area residents and businesses.

Over the last 60 years, tidal sands have buried the 60-in. concrete pipe’s opening, and the pipe is now blocked with sand and sediment. Stantec will develop recommendations for a new concrete headwall and dredging for a new channel adjacent to the Boston Inner Harbor to restore the outfall pipeline to working order.
