The Shaw Group, Inc., Baton Rouge, La., announced that its Environmental and Infrastructure Group has received a contract from General Electric Co. to provide a broad range of services in connection with the cleanup of Hudson River sediment contaminated by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from the former GE production facility in Hudson Falls, N.Y. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
The project will involve the dredging of PCB-contaminated sediments. Once the dredging begins, Shaw will operate the processing facilities needed to manage sediments, including a barge terminal where sediments will be delivered and unloaded, a dewatering building with specialized equipment that will press water from dredged sediments, a water treatment plant that will remove PCBs from the water and large railroad staging facilities for the rail transport of the processed sediment for disposal.
