Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher announced today that five Ohio communities will receive Water and Sanitary Sewer Program grants totaling $2.8 million, assisting approximately 1,059 households.
"It is essential in Ohio's communities that all of its residents are given the opportunity to have safe and sanitary living environments," said Lt. Governor Lee Fisher, who also serves as director of the Ohio Department of Development. "The Water and Sanitary Sewer Program is a vital component in providing Ohioans with this opportunity of a healthy, quality life by offering efficient water and sanitary systems."
The five communities receiving Water and Sanitary Sewer grants include:
Jefferson County will receive a $500,000 grant to address water contamination in the Rush Run area of the county by installing approximately 29,260 linear feet of waterlines. The $2.1 million project will assist 141 households.
Morrow County will receive a $600,000 grant to address failing on-site septic systems in the Johnsville area of Perry Township by installing approximately 16,935 linear feet of sanitary sewer line and constructing a waste water treatment plan. The $1.7 million project will assist 89 households.
The Village of Ashley, in Delaware County, will receive a $500,000 grant to address wastewater treatment plant overflows by repairing or replacing approximately 8,934 linear feet of sanitary sewer lines. The $1.5 million project will assist 469 households.
The Village of Ridgeway, in Hardin County, will receive a $600,000 grant to address on-site septic system failures by installing approximately 35,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer line and a pump station. The $2.9 million project will assist 130 households.
The Village of Tarlton, in Pickaway County, will receive a $600,000 grant to address failing on-site septic systems by installing approximately 55,850 linear feet of sanitary sewer lines, two lift stations and 10 grinder pumps. The $4.2 million project will assist 230 households.
The Water and Sanitary Sewer Program, administered by the Ohio Department of Development and funded with Ohio Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program funds, helps local governments maintain, improve, and expand their water and sanitary sewer systems. The program's goal is to create a safe and sanitary living environment for Ohio citizens through the provision of safe and reliable drinking water and proper disposal of sanitary waste. Communities with documented health and safety concerns receive priority for funding.
