Feb. 12, 2003
NSF International, The Public Health and Safety Company, has opened the new FreshCheck laboratory at the NSF International World Headquarters in Ann Arbor, MI. NSF FreshCheck is a comprehensive microbial monitoring and auditing program for grocery stores and supermarkets.

The transition from St. Paul, MN to the new laboratory facility was completed in just three months after the acquisition of FreshCheck. The new FreshCheck laboratory in Ann Arbor utilizes state-of-the-art analytical equipment and timely web-based reporting to provide customers with quick turnaround time and improved customer service.

The NSF FreshCheck Food Safety Risk Management Program includes three components: 1) audits to evaluate food safety, sanitation and customer perceptions; 2) microbial monitoring to test for bacteria that may cause illness, spoilage and poor quality in perishables; and 3) FastCheck™, an immediate response to customer foodborne illness allegations, which includes testing of suspect products. The new FreshCheck laboratory allows all of these services to be performed in one central location.

"Having so many programs and services offered at one location is a great benefit. The new laboratory, which is an integral part of their large campus-like facility, provides us with all the food safety resources and expertise we need," said Orhan Uner, Director of Central Procurement, Nash Finch Company. "In addition to rapid microbiological testing, we also have access to the NSF Center for Public Health Education."

"We are very pleased with the new FreshCheck laboratory. The larger, highly advanced facility and the increased number of staff allows for unparalleled customer service," said Nancy Culotta, Vice President, Retail Food Safety Programs. "Customers may now take advantage of all the food safety services that NSF offers including food processor audits, education and consulting services."
