P>The American Water Works Association (AWWA), in conjunction with the AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition taking place in Washington, D.C., issued a press release on Tuesday, June 19, citing the infrastructure study conducted by AWWA. The release reports that the AWWA study found that the nation must invest an additional $250 billion to replace aging drinking water infrastructure over the next 30 years, at a cost of as much as $6,900 per household. AWWA recommended in the release that water utilities and government at all levels usher in a new partnership to address the infrastructure situation.
Utility members should expect infrastructure inquiries from local media. AWWA encourages utility members to be prepared to discuss their individual infrastructure needs. Utilities seeking more information may refer to the complete AWWA infrastructure report at http://www.awwa.org/govtaff/infrastructure.pdf.
