Jim Williams Appointed AWWA President
Jim Williams began his one-year term as president of the American Water Works Assn. in a gavel passing ceremony at the conclusion of AWWA’s 138th Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE19) in Denver Wednesday.
ACE19 drew more than 12,000 water professionals to Denver June 9 to 12 to peruse 1,083 booths with the latest industry technology and hear from more than 500 presenters. The event generated approximately $26 million in economic impact to Denver.
BlueTech Research Technology Innovation Award for LG Sonic
During the BlueTech Forum conference, LG Sonic received the BlueTech Research award “Best Technology Innovation” for the LG Sonic MPC-Buoy. The MPC-Buoy is a solution to control algal blooms in large water surfaces by combining real-time water quality monitoring and ultrasound technology.
Texas Public Works Assn. Present Awards to LAN
The Texas chapter of the American Public Works Assn. recognized two projects by civil engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN) as Public Works Project of the Year. The awards for these projects were presented at the chapter’s annual conference in Austin on June 7th.
“The awards are a testament to the dedication of our engineers who worked tirelessly on these projects,” said Wayne Swafford, P.E, LAN’s president. “I am incredibly proud of them.”
Bonita Spring Utilities Inc. Earns FWEA Awards
Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. (BSU) received two awards for outstanding accomplishments from the Florida Water Environment Assn.
BSU’s wastewater treatment team received the 2019 Earle B. Phelps Award in the secondary wastewater treatment plants category, which recognizes wastewater treatment facilities that have maintained the highest removal of major pollution-causing constituents prior to discharging treated effluent for irrigation reuse.
