GE Water Business Wins Safety Award

April 28, 2015
The company achieved more than 30,000 hours of onsite service at an Ohio facility without a recordable injury

GE was recently honored with a Platinum Contractor Safety Award from Kraton Performance Polymers Inc. for the company’s dedication to safety during the last 17 years. GE provides advanced water technology to Kraton’s facility in Belpre, Ohio, where they were recognized for having zero recordable injuries over more than 30,087 hours from January 1998 through October 2014.

Kraton, a longtime customer of GE, utilizes a variety of solutions within the water and process technologies portfolio including products within the chemical, monitoring and equipment business units.

“Safety is a core value at Kraton, and it’s important that our partners feel this way as well. The GE team in Ohio clearly makes safety a top priority,” said Andrew Lett, health and safety engineer at Kraton Polymers, who presented the award to GE earlier this year.

GE’s chemical and monitoring solutions team has been on site for close to 18 years at Kraton’s Belpre facility. It treats water for the entire plant including influent clarification, wastewater treatment, plant boilers and cooling towers, process applications and effluent water clarification. Since 2010, the engineered systems team at GE has provided the Kraton plant with 750 gal per minute of boiler feedwater through the use of ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis under a newly extended build-own-operate contract.

“Throughout the many years GE has been on-site at Kraton, we’ve made safety a top priority. We care about the health and safety of our customers and their employees, just like we do the GE team,” said Heiner Markhoff, president and CEO—water and process technologies for GE Power & Water. “We go to great lengths to ensure the safety of our operations, the equipment we deploy and the facilities people work in always meet or exceed safety standards.”

Kraton Polymers’ safety awards are given to on-site contractors who meet certain criteria, including total hours worked and the number of personnel at a given facility.
