DWR Announces AB 303 Local Groundwater Assistance Act Grant Awards

The California Department of Water Resources has awarded grants totaling $5,784,506 under the Local Groundwater Assistance Fund.

The grants are being awarded to 26 public agencies from throughout the state to perform groundwater studies, and conduct groundwater monitoring and management activities.

The goal of the Local Groundwater Management Assistance Act of 2000 (Assembly Bill 303) is to help local agencies better understand how to manage groundwater resources effectively to ensure the safe production, quality and storage of groundwater in the state.

Intense groundwater management program interest by local agencies is reflected in the receipt this fiscal year of 69 proposals requesting more than $15 million.

The Department of Water Resources operates and maintains the State Water Project, provides dam safety and flood control and inspection services, assists local water districts in water management and water conservation planning, and plans for future statewide water needs.
