Dewberry recently hired Amin Davis as a senior environmental scientist in the firm’s Fairfax, Va., office, and Matthew P. Miller as an environmental scientist in the firm’s Orlando, Fla., office.

Davis will be responsible for conducting technical assessments of natural resources, coordinating environmental permitting activities, and supporting proposal preparations.

Davis has more than 13 years of experience conducting environmental assessments across the private- and public-sectors, including transportation, industrial, energy, and local, state and federal government projects throughout the mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Some of the fieldwork he has preformed includes wetland and stream assessments, endangered species surveys, NEPA/SEPA environmental assessments, water quality sampling, compensatory mitigation assessment, banking, monitoring and construction oversight. Davis also has extensive experience integrating GIS and GPS technologies into environmental assessments.

Prior to joining Dewberry, Davis served as an environmental review coordinator with North Carolina State Parks, coordinating review and compliance activities on a statewide basis. He was directly responsible for coordinating more than 10 watershed improvement projects, including acquiring $195,000 and identifying an additional $1 million in grant funding.

Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in marine and environmental science and a master’s degree in zoology from Hampton University and North Carolina State University, respectively. He is a member of the Virginia Assn. of Wetland Professionals, and the Mid-Atlantic Region Environmental Professionals.

Miller will be responsible for wetland and threatened/endangered species surveying and permitting, water resource coordination and permitting, and other public projects.

Miller has more than eight years of experience as an environmental scientist in both the public and private sectors. Aside from his ecological experience, he brings a diverse skill set to Dewberry, including knowledge of groundwater flow modeling, wetland assessments, water quality monitoring, and incorporating GIS technology in spatial analyses. Prior to joining Dewberry, Miller served as an environmental reviewer with the Southwest Florida Water Management District, reviewing wetland impact permits; proprietary authorizations; and recreational, agricultural, public supply, mining, commercial and industrial water use permits.

Miller earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Stetson University and a master’s in environmental science and policy from the University of South Florida. He is a member of both the National and Florida Assns. of Environmental Professionals, and served as the former president of the Southwest Florida Chapter. Miller is also a member of the Florida Ornithological Society and the Florida Society of Environmental Analysts.
