Trinity Trudy, the mascot of Dallas’ storm water management department is getting a makeover. The 7-year-old mascot in the form of a dragonfly was created to help teach local kids about the dangers of storm water pollution. The makeover is apart of a larger campaign that the department has launched to help educate Dallas residents about important storm water issues.
Officials told the Dallas Morning News that most kids, and even many adults, do not understand the city’s storm water system. Trinity Trudy was drawn in 1999 by a former storm water department employee, Tamara Elliot. The dragonfly concept was chosen because it is an insect that needs clean water to live.
Trinity's name is derived from the nearby Trinity river. She is featured in activity books and stickers and even has her own website. Recently, her image was changed in an effort to make her appear as more of a heroine, and also more appealing to children in an effort to get the point across.
