CH2M HILL announced that Norm Huggins, CH2M HILL senior vice president, was presented the Beaubien Award during the 2013 Canadian Consulting Engineering award gala held in Ottawa, Canada on Oct. 22, 2013. The Assn. of Consulting Engineering Companies—Canada (ACEC) recognizes an individual each year for his lifetime contributions to advance the consulting engineering industry and profession, as well as his service to ACEC.
Huggins celebrated his 45th anniversary with the firm in August. He joined CH2M HILL (formerly known in Canada as Gore and Storrie) as a summer intern in 1966 and after graduating from Queen’s University with a degree in civil engineering in 1969 commenced work as a design engineer designing water and wastewater infrastructure for projects throughout Ontario. Over the course of his distinguished career, many communities across Canada have benefitted from his expertise and many colleagues have developed their careers under Huggins’ leadership.
In addition to his career at CH2M HILL, Huggins has devoted considerable time to professional organizations over the years, including serving as board member, chair, and past chair of ACEC. As chair of ACEC, Huggins led the 2005-2006 board in developing a guideline for engaging professional services based on the qualifications of professional services offered. This Qualifications-Based Selection process was included as an industry best practice in the National Guide to Sustainable Municipal Infrastructure, commonly referred to as InfraGuide. ACEC continues to promote this practice for the procurement of professional engineering services.
“Norm has dedicated much of his long career to serving the engineering profession and its membership organizations, such as ACEC, as well as Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO),” says Peter Nicol, CH2M HILL senior vice president and managing director, International Water. “Norm has been a great mentor for people aspiring to be consulting engineers, and it is an honor for him to represent CH2M HILL and accept this distinguished award.”
