June 11, 2012

The 131st American Water Works Association Annual Conference and Exposition opened doors on Sunday, June 10, as exhibitors and attendees eased into what promises to be a busy week. Today's Opening General Session featured an address by AWWA President Jerry Stevens and Executive Director David LaFrance, who both stressed the meaningful role water infrastructure plays in people's health, as well as keeping the economy growing and ensuring safe and sustainable water supplies for future generations. AWWA also took the opportunity to recognize distinguished industry professionals for their public service, communication and volunteering efforts in a brief award ceremony.

The keynote address by Steve Roberts offered insights into the current political environment and its impact on the water industry. The editorial staff of Water & Wastes Digest is excited to be a part of this year's event. Be sure to visit our website for daily news updates from the show.
