American Water Works Announces Two Promotions

New position created for subsidiary American Water Resources

American Water Works Co. Inc. announced that Barbara Boyarsky was named vice president and general manager of its American Water Resources subsidiary. The company also named Michael Champion as director of marketing for American Water Resources. American Water Resources is the company’s homeowner services business, which provides water line, sewer line and in-home plumbing emergency protection programs to residential customers in select states, and to municipalities through its LineSaver program.

In the newly created role of vice president and general manager, Boyarsky will oversee the marketing and operations teams of American Water Resources, including customer service, claims, quality assurance, finance and compliance. She also will share oversight of its information technology services (ITS) team. In her previous role as director of marketing for American Water Resources, Boyarsky led the department through five years of continued customer growth and built a strong team focused on increasing efficiency and reducing cost.

Boyarsky joined American Water in 2005 after 27 years of progressive marketing experience at Comcast Corp., where she led day-to-day strategic development of the subscription businesses. She was also chairman of the Delaware Valley Pay-Per-View Co-op for 13 years and is currently a platinum member of the American Teleservices Assn. A resident of Erial, N.J., she serves as a volunteer for the Delaware Valley Alzheimer's Assn., as well as chair of its annual golf tournament.

Champion, who previously served as marketing manager, will expand his leadership responsibilities in his new role as director of marketing. Since joining the company in 2007, Champion has developed and implemented key marketing strategies, resulting in significant gains in customer contracts. Prior to joining American Water, he served for six years at Universal Studios-Spencer Gifts LLC, where he managed and executed all marketing and brand initiatives. He also held marketing management positions with Marketsource Corp. 360 Youth and K’NEX Industries Inc.

Champion is a member of several professional associations including the American Marketing Assn., Direct Marketing Assn. and Promotion Marketing Assn. He is a resident of Mullica Hill, N.J.
