U.S. Mayors to Meet With Federal Agencies on Water Issues

Mayors to give special focus to water policies of new Administration

U.S. mayors from across the country are traveling to the nation's capital to meet with federal agencies concerned with water infrastructure in cities, rivers and watersheds during the Mayors Water Council Summit at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington.

The Mayors will give special focus to the water policies of the new Administration; the interface between water, energy and green infrastructure; as well as the financial challenges imposed by unfunded federal mandates.

The Mayors Water Summit is the capstone annual event of the Mayors Water Council, a task force of the U.S. Conference of Mayors that assists local governments in providing their cities with safe, adequate and affordable water and wastewater services and infrastructure in the 21st century.

Mayors also will continue the dialogue with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on collaborative approaches to improve watershed management.

Participating cities include Pleasanton, Calif.; West Sacramento, Calif.; Hallendale Beach, Fla.; North Miami, Fla.; Evanston, Ill.; Evansville, Ind.; Chicopee, Mass; Marlborough, Mass.; Dearborn, Mich.; Kansas City, Mo.; Hope Township, N.J.; Schenectady, N.Y.; Akron, Ohio; Lima, Ohio; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Tacoma, Wash.; and Waukesha, Wis.
