Sylvan Source M-600 Becomes First Ultra-Clean Water System to Earn IAPMO Certification

April 20, 2006

Sylvan Source announced that its flagship product, the Sylvan Source M-600, became the first distillation-based, ultra-clean water treatment system to earn certification from the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO).

Unlike traditional IAPMO certification, which is awarded to components of plumbing and mechanical systems, IAPMO Research and Testing certified the entire M-600 appliance as compliant with its stringent quality standards for the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) for both the U.S. and Canada. IAPMO certification enables homebuilders to confidently recommend and include the maintenance-free Sylvan Source M-600 as a standard appliance in new home construction and a value-added feature in prestigious developments.

“It is rare for a home appliance manufacturer to submit a system to IAPMO for certification,” said Laura Demmons, chief executive officer of Sylvan Source. “We submitted the M-600 to IAPMO’s rigorous test and review processes at the request of homebuilders who face the growing challenge of ensuring water quality in new home developments. IAPMO's UPC certification demonstrates our mutual commitment to ensuring that people receive ultra-clean drinking water in their homes from a high-quality, maintenance-free appliance.”

The IAPMO organization is dedicated to protecting public health and safety through the development and maintenance of the Uniform Plumbing Code and the Uniform Mechanical Code. As a membership association serving industry, government, consumers and other parties, IAPMO is a leading developer of standards, codes, product testing and certification, as well as an accredited agency for ISO management systems registration.

Sylvan Source also announced that Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), an independent, not-for-profit product safety certification organization that has been testing products for more than 110 years, awarded the M-600 its certification after exhaustive electrical and reliability testing for both the U.S. and Canadian standards. Certification from the IAPMO and UL organizations represents additional industry validation of the M-600’s quality and high performance.

In addition, Sylvan Source announced that the M-600 achieved NSF/ANSI Standard 62 certification. NSF International is an independent, not-for-profit organization and the world leader in standards development, product certification, education and risk-management for public health and safety. The NSF/ANSI Standard 62 covers drinking water distillation systems, and the Sylvan Source M-600 is currently the only home drinking water treatment system to achieve this designation. The M-600 performed at more than four times the required reduction rate for the total dissolved solids contaminant reduction test.

The Sylvan Source M-600 integrates degassing, distillation and demisting technologies into a unique multi-step cleaning process. It requires no cleaning and uses no added chemicals, filters, cartridges or membranes. This allows Sylvan Source to provide consistently clean water over time. One M-600 unit can be used for multiple points of water delivery where demand ranges from 2 to 6 gal per day, such as faucets, refrigerators and icemakers.
