The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) recently awarded a $569,944 grant to the Thailand Water Resources Association (Bangkok) to study the feasibility of developing an integrated river and wetland management system for the Pak Phanang River Basin region in southern Thailand.
A U.S. company will conduct the feasibility study. The project goal is to support restoration and management of damaged wetlands, reduce habitat loss, promote conservation and water resource management, and sustain local jobs in agriculture and aquaculture, according to a USTDA press statement.
The funding also will support a training program to apply management tools used in the project to other wetland regions in Thailand, the statement says. USTDA, a federal agency, supports activities that promote economic development and U.S. commercial interests in developing and middle-income countries by funding activities that help create modern infrastructure and free trade.
