PVSC to Recognize Local Firms with Perfect Environmental Compliance

March 26, 2004

For the ninth consecutive year, the Passaic (N.J.) Valley Sewerage Commissioners will recognize companies that operated in the previous calendar year without a reporting or effluent violation. The companies will be recognized the PVSC’s annual Permit Compliance Awards Breakfast to be held March 30 in Newark.

A keynote speech will be given by Samuel Wolfe, assistant commissioner, environmental regulation at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Included in this year’s honorees are three companies that have reached a new milestone—nine straight years without a reporting or discharge violation. The three firms to be recognized are Handy Store Fixtures, Sensient Technical Colors and the Aurilyte Process Co.

Companies qualifying as Significant Industrial Users operating in the PVSC service area are issued a Sewer Use Permit, which includes limits for the quality of effluent the company may discharge into the sewer system. These companies must also monitor and report their discharges to PVSC on a monthly basis. Compliance violations occur when a company fails to file its monthly report on time or exceeds its permitted discharge limit.
