Sionix Corporation Completes First Production Modular Water Treatment System

Feb. 12, 2003
Sionix Corporation has completed its first production unit of its modular transportable water treatment systems.

"Sionix' Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) technology is a highly efficient, self-contained turnkey packaged water treatment system or pre-treatment process using ordinary air with minimal chemical filter aids. These systems are modular, which simplifies expansion problems. These systems allow a user to add units as needed and when budgets permit not 10 or 20 years in advance such as the larger in-ground systems," James J. Houtz, President of Sionix Corporation said.

He also said, "The Sionix DAF water treatment systems are designed for easy installation, set-up, operation and maintenance, including remote monitoring of water quality. This turnkey package system is based on superior dissolved air flotation technology. The modular system is available either as a complete treatment plant or as individual components and is housed in a standard 40-ft ISO shipping container. The transportable units are highly mobile via truck, rail, cargo, helicopter, or ship and are secure from outside threat or contamination (bio-terrorism). The unit is free standing and may be transported to any area suffering catastrophic damage to its water system. The system can be operational within 48 hours." Houtz stated, "A Sionix System will produce a minimum of 200 gallons per minute (GPM) of fresh potable water (approximately 288,000 gallons per day). This amount of fresh water will supply the needs of a community of 2,400 to 2,600 people (about 500 to 600) homes and its infrastructure."

"Sionix systems are capable of treating a wide variety of organic and inorganic solids and dissolved waste streams. The DAF technology removes greater than 99.5% of the suspended particles in the water stream, providing a that greatly reduces the risk of bacterial or parasitic contamination, particularly Cryptosporidium, Giardia and E-coli with minimal or no disinfection by-products such as THM's," he continued.

Houtz stated, "The Sionix dissolved air flotation (DAF) system meets all current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US-EPA) regulations for the treatment of surface and groundwater."

Houtz said, "This unit is currently undergoing calibration of systems and instrumentation, run sequence events and control loops. During this process the entire system is leak tested. In addition, the SCADA software program (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is loaded. The SCADA software control program provides on-line, real-time monitoring of the complete water treatment system. In addition, it automatically controls and monitors wet-chemistry, in-line sensors, automatic self-cleaning filtration systems, and automatic filter-to-waste control programs."
