Seawright Holdings, Inc., owner of natural springs on the eastern seaboard, today announced its new corporate policy that prescribes ecologically responsible and sustainable business operations. This policy focuses the company’s efforts on a commitment to use recyclable and biodegradable materials and alternative fuels in the packaging and shipping of its Seawright Springs Premium Natural Spring Water product.
Seawright intends to be one of the first bottled water companies to offer its product in a biodegradable bottle. Currently Seawright Water is offered in its own proprietary design bottle. In the first quarter of 2008 this bottle and all packaging will be converted to biodegradability.
The company continues to closely watch the development of several new earth friendly technologies for bottling. Seawright is monitoring the progress of a biodegradable bottle made from an organic, renewable corn-based resin that requires about 20% to 30% less energy to manufacture and contributes only half the carbon dioxide of plastics made from petrochemicals. Additionally, these corn-based bottles are fully compostable and will degrade in a commercial composing facility into harmless water and organic material in 75 to 80 days.
On another front, Seawright is encouraging its suppliers to favor environmentally sustainable and renewable technologies in their products and processes, such as the use of biofuels in shipping and transportation.
