San Diego to Host Fourth Annual Water For People Luncheon

Oct. 10, 2011

The event on Oct. 27 helps raise funds for worldwide initiatives

The San Diego Committee of Water For People (WFP) invites you to the 4th Annual Fall Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Admiral Baker Golf Course Club House in Mission Gorge, Calif.

The WFP community will gather to celebrate what has become the most distinguished fundraising event for the organization in the California and Nevada area. All are welcome and encouraged to register online.

WFP is a Denver-based non-governmental organization founded in 1991 by the American Water Works Assn. (AWWA). The international humanitarian organization focuses on improving the quality of life in developing countries by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and health and hygiene education programs.

WFP now works in rural areas of 11 countries where the need is greatest for water and sanitation solutions. The San Diego Committee is proud of its ongoing success in contributing to the organization, thanks to the continued support of San Diego-based individuals, businesses and public agencies that have taken initiative to get involved both locally and internationally.

While the goal of the luncheon is to maximize donations for WFP projects, the program also provides information about global and local WFP initiatives. This year’s program will feature Jen Farrow of Katz & Associates who will present highlights of her recent trip to Bolivia with Water For People.

The program will also include information about the San Diego Committee’s on-going fundraising work, as well as the many ways in which San Diego residents can contribute their time and effort to this growing organization.

More than 120 people attended last year’s luncheon in San Diego and raised $8,600 for WFP projects across the globe. As a result of 2010 luncheon donations alone, nearly 200 additional people have obtained sustainable clean water, sanitation and hygiene systems.

There are several ways to contribute to the success of this fund raising event, including purchasing individual tickets, becoming an event sponsor or sponsoring a table at the event. Table sponsorships enable businesses to invite eight clients and employees to enjoy lunch, presentations about WFP and time to network with leaders in San Diego’s water and wastewater community.

Overall event sponsorships provide two designated tables and recognition on event banners and materials. Eleven organizations have already made a donation to sponsor a table, including AECOM, Arcadis/Malcolm Pirnie, Avista Technologies, CDM, California Bank & Trust, Coombs-Hopkins, DLT&V Systems, Katz & Associates, MWH, Potomac Hudson and Simon Wong Eng.

Donated prizes are also encouraged from individuals and businesses who wish to support the silent auction and raffle at the luncheon.
