The 45-acre Lake Glenview has become Marvin Bordes', 69, a retired sheet-metal worker from Des Plaines, Ill., favorite fishing hole since it opened in June, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The village built the lake in 1999 as a storm-water detention area for developments on the former Glenview Naval Air Station.
The lake filled in naturally, getting up to 19 feet deep in some places.
In 2000, the village began stocking it with bluegill, then northern pike, largemouth bass and catfish.
Today, the village allows catch-and-release for all gamefish and welcomes anyone to catch and keep the carp that have infiltrated the lake. The catch-and-release program ensures a constant challenge, Bordes said.
"I come at least four days a week now, basically because the fish are here," he said. "And they're only going to get bigger."
