Severn Trent Services' Rapid Toxicity Test Gets ETV Verification

Severn Trent Services' Eclox™ Rapid Response Water Test System recently has been verified by the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program.

Since 1995, the ETV program, supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has been generating third-party objective performance data on commercially available environmental technologies so potential buyers and users can make informed purchases and application decisions.

As part of the efforts of the National Homeland Security Research Center, the ETV Advanced Monitoring Systems (AMS) Center was funded to develop protocols and test technologies for the detection of chemical and biological warfare agents that may be introduced into drinking water.

Severn Trent's Eclox was one of several products tested under the category of Rapid Toxicity Testing Systems. Verification testing was conducted by Battelle at the AMS Center in Columbus, Ohio from July 14, 2003 to August 22, 2003. The Eclox system was evaluated on its claim to rapidly detect the presence of a broad spectrum of chemical and organic contaminants in a community water system.

Additionally, Battelle evaluated the Eclox system's response to interfering compounds in drinking water. ETV verification testing determined that the system successfully met the manufacturer's performance claims and further recognized the system as easy to transport and use. The detailed written instructions provided with the Eclox system were noted as easily enabling an operator with little technical training to operate the system.
