Membrane Week 2008

The American Membrane Technology Association (AMTA) and its affiliate, the Southeast Desalting Association (SEDA), are organizing and conducting Membrane Week, the AMTA/SEDA 2008 Joint Conference & Exposition, one of the largest and most comprehensive membrane events ever held in the U.S. The event will be held July 14 to 17, 2008, at the Naples Grande Resort & Club in Naples, Fla.

Something for Everyone

People with all levels of knowledge or interest in membranes will benefit from this conference. Current membrane engineers and users will want to attend to learn the latest techniques and keep up with state-of-the-art technologies while also fulfilling their licensing requirements.

This conference has approval from Florida and several other states for CEU credit. The event is a great opportunity even for those who are not currently using membranes but are considering using them or are curious about what membrane technologies can do for their utilities.

Membranes will be the only topic discussed, including membrane bioreactors, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, brackish water reverse osmosis (RO), seawater RO desalination, electrodialysis reversal and more. The exhibit hall is nearly sold out, with more than 70 exhibitors who are all global leaders in membranes and desalination. These exhibitors have varying roles within the industry, including engineers, organization leaders and manufacturers of various products, systems and components.

Planners, regulators, engineers, manufacturers and operators will all gather under one roof for one reason: membranes.

Educational Opportunities

The conference will commence on Monday, July 14, with two preconference workshops sponsored by the National Water Research Institute and the Affordable Desalination Collaboration. Throughout the next three days, there will be more than 80 presentations in concurrent sessions, followed by committee and board meetings. These sessions are filled with practical and pertinent information about various membrane technologies, including sessions that focus on just the basics for novices.

More than 20 presentations will cover various components used in membrane plants, such as pumps, energy recovery systems, controls, pretreatment and post-treatment. Several sessions are also dedicated to planning, permitting, procurement and financing membrane plants. There are also sessions geared directly toward membrane plant operators and supervisors.

Two membrane facility tours are planned, providing the chance to get an up-close view of two large and impressive membrane plants. This will also provide an opportunity to get hands-on training and ask questions of those who already have experience with membrane technology implementation. Put their knowledge and experience to work for you.

This rare opportunity becomes available only once every few years, so mark your calendars early and do not miss out. You can find registration forms at the AMTA website,
