One of the first water agencies in the U.S. to implement wastewater reclamation with membrane technology, will again expand its facility with Memcor microfiltration systems.
USFilter will supply its fifth microfiltration system to West Central Basin Municipal Water District. An 11.8 million gallon per day (mgd) Memcor Continuous Microfiltration Submerged (CMF-S) system will treat secondary effluent as pretreatment to reverse osmosis (RO) for the Phase IV Expansion of the District's water recycling plant in El Segundo, Calif.
In 1997, the first Memcor CMF plant started producing pretreated water for a RO system producing water used for injection into a seawater barrier to control seawater intrusion into the groundwater. Since then, three more Memcor CMF/RO systems have been installed by the District to supply re-purified water to nearby Mobil, Chevron and Arco refineries with feedwater for their boilers and cooling water.
USFilter will be installing the latest generation of Memcor technology, CMF-S, for the Phase IV Expansion. The plant is scheduled to start-up mid-2005.
