Pittsburgh Brewing Pays $900,000 of Past Due Water Bills

Nov. 17, 2004

Pittsburgh Brewing Company has paid $900,000 in delinquent water bills to avoid having its water supply cut off, a company representative announced Monday.

The company, which makes Iron City and I.C. Light beers, paid the money to the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority this month.

Pittsburgh Brewing will continue the process of settling a dispute with the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority, which threatened to shut off its water unless a payment was made.

Officials with the sanitary authority say Pittsburgh Brewing owes more than $2.4 million for sewage service.

Last year, a court-supervised agreement had given the company 12 months to pay its past due bills to the water and sewer authorities.

That agreement expired on Sept. 30, and the two sides have been working on a new deal since then. The partial payment gives them six more months to resolve the matter.
