Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. of Houston has earned a National Recognition Award for exemplary engineering achievement in the American Council of Engineering Companies’ (ACEC) 49th annual Engineering Excellence Awards for the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) Water Quality Modeling Tool Development project in San Antonio, Texas.
The project team developed several water quality modeling tools to help SARA quickly and accurately assess the effectiveness of various storm water management strategies, eliminating the need for costly long-term monitoring. Using these tools, SARA and other water authorities and communities throughout the nation will be able to more effectively manage storm water runoff as close as possible to the source, thereby creating more sustainable watersheds while also meeting increasingly strict water quality standards.
ACEC recognized 151 engineering achievements throughout the nation and the world and all were eligible for top national honors. Judging for this year’s awards took place in February, conducted by a panel of more than 30 engineers, architects, government officials, media members and academics. Award criteria included uniqueness and originality, technical innovation, social and economic value, complexity and success in achieving goals.
Winners of the top national awards will be named at the annual Engineering Excellence Awards Dinner and Gala on April 19, 2016 in Washington, D.C.
