Former President of Eastern WQA Dies at 68

A Pioneer in the Ion Exchange Industry

Stanley M. Ziarkowski of Mount Laurel, N.J., passed away May 3. Stan attended Penn State University where he earned a degree in chemistry. He began his career in the water treatment industry at Calgon Corp. where he worked for 10 years. In 1966, Stan then went to work as a technical specialist for the Gamlen division of Sybron Chemicals, Inc. (now a Bayer Company), where he held numerous positions, becoming vice president for the Ion Exchange Household business in 1986.

Stan served as president and on the board of directors of the Eastern WQA. The WQA honored him with several awards including: the "Award of Merit," the "Reagents Award" and the "Hall of Fame Award." Stan recently was honored at Sybron, where he worked for 36 years, as a Quarter Century Safety Club Charter member. He frequently was published on a broad range of issues dealing with the water treatment industry. He holds a patent for an inert resin that is used to separate cation from anion in a mixed-bed deionization unit.

Stan was an avid golfer who loved travelling, Penn State football and spoiling his grandchildren. Stan is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Evelyn; his two daughters, Donna and Carol Anne (married to Mark McCauley); and two grandchildren, Bret and Victoria.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd., Cherry Hill, N.J. 08034.
