ING, in collaboration with the Red Cross in China will fund the installation of safe drinking water supplies and latrines, and will provide hygiene education to households in the province.

Alexander Rinnooy Kan, Member of Executive Board and Chairman of the Executive Committee ING Asia Pacific says, "Corporate and social responsibility is an integrated part of ING Group's global identity. As a global financial services provider, ING is committed to being a good corporate citizen in all the communities where it has a presence. ING believes that it is beneficial to all its stakeholders that it makes a contribution to the socio-economic development of the communities where it does business."

The Province of Liaoning is home to ING Capital Life Insurance Company, the insurance joint venture formed with Beijing Capital Group in 2002. Adding value to the community where ING operates is part of its business objectives.

At the Millennium Summit in September 2000, the United Nations set the ambitious goal to reduce the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water by 50% in 2015. The Dutch have a long tradition of dealing with water. ING, being a Dutch rooted international company, therefore, chose to contribute to this Millenium Goal by funding access to safe drinking water for selected communities where ING is active.
