AFS Makes Strategic Change of Direction

The Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the American Filtration & Separations Society (AFS) have made a change of direction of AFS that will now be focused on specifiers, buyers and users of filters and filtration systems and the education of the industry

Following numerous requests from membership and others in the industry, the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the American Filtration & Separations Society (AFS) have made a change of direction in the focus of AFS. Energies will now be focused on specifiers, buyers and users of filters and filtration systems and the education of the industry.

This means that the AFS will concentrate on the interests of those who buy and use filters and their needs, whether it is training and education of the latest advances in filtration or separation technology, or providing a venue to meet suppliers of filtration media, filters, filtration systems and equipment at AFS Conferences and Expositions.

"In the past we have served all the parties in the industry from the educator to the supplier of component parts and filter products, but have failed serve the most important person who makes the decisive buying decision and ultimately pays the bill," said Scott Yaeger, chairman of AFS. Interestingly, filter specifiers, buyers and users have had no single event to go for both filtration education and to concurrently meet filter and equipment suppliers in spite of the fact these individuals consume billions of dollars of filtration products each year.

Separately, other educational trade associations and organizations told the AFS they were seeking to broaden their own scope and felt the new AFS strategy presented mutual opportunities. Thus, beginning in 2005, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) agreed to co-locate their annual spring Conference and Exposition with the AFS in Atlanta, Ga. In 2006 the AFS will be co-located with the Powder and Bulk Solids Show in Chicago, Ill.

AFS Fall Topical Conferences will also target specifiers, buyers and users of filters and filtration systems and education.
