The U.S. government has asked AWWA to help obtain contributions of laboratory equipment from suppliers in the United States.
The equipment is needed for drinking water treatment plant laboratories in Baghdad and other cities in Iraq, where it will be used by U.S. military personnel and local water treatment technicians in upgrading drinking water treatment and delivery systems.
The list of materials includes laboratory instrumentation for organic and metal determinations, bacteriological media and reagents, general laboratory supplies, reagents for chlorine determination and laboratory furniture.
There is a need for some rather expensive equipment as well as for the lower cost materials commonly found in water treatment plants in the United States but lacking in Iraq.
AWWA is asking its membership if they are able to donate any of the equipment on this list. All donations will be most appreciated and will go a long way toward providing safe drinking water for the people of Iraq.
