Since 2008, an alliance between leading businesses, farmers and environmental non-governmental organizations has worked to positively affect the way we use and consume water. Charting New Waters (CNW)—launched by The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread—will release its new report, “Navigating to New Shores: Seizing the Future for Sustainable and Resilient U.S. Freshwater Resources,” on Sept. 29, 2014 at the Water Environment Federation’s annual Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) in New Orleans.
The report captures the collective wisdom of more than 600 experts who have participated in the CNW initiative and lays out principles to help guide the efforts of the nation’s public agencies, utilities, businesses and communities. It identifies ways to confront the serious water challenges facing the U.S. today—from aging infrastructure, pollution and scarcity to energy impacts and the threats posed by climate change. The report offers timely recommendations to catalyze transformative change for a sustainable and resilient future.
This final CNW report will serve as the culmination of a six-year examination of U.S. freshwater issues led by The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread. In 2008, the Foundation began convening experts to identify solutions to the nation’s most pressing freshwater challenges and determined that a collaboration of diverse leaders in the field could catalyze the uptake of innovative freshwater solutions for the 21st century.
The release event will take place at 12:15 p.m. in the Great Hall Prefunction Space at the Morial Convention Center. Speakers include Dr. Lynn Broaddus, environment program director at The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread, and George Hawkins, general manager of the DC Water and Sewer Authority.
