The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $485,000 to the City of Topeka, Kan., for improvements to its drinking water and sewer systems. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2012.
“It’s always a pleasure to help provide safe, reliable and affordable water to Kansas communities,” said EPA Region Seven Administrator Karl Brooks. “These water infrastructure funds will partially fund the construction project which is estimated to cost $3.2 million.”
The purpose of the projects is to extend drinking water and sewer service to Topeka’s new Kanza Fire Commerce Park. This will allow future planned development of the area.
The drinking water project will include approximately 9,500 ft of 18-in. water line, 925 ft of 24-in. water line and four fire hydrants.
The sanitary sewer project will include 3,375 ft of 18-in. sewer pipe, 2,100 feet of 15-in. sewer pipe and 13 standard manholes.
