June 16, 2020

The development of all water and wastewater facilities at the upcoming King Salman Energy Park (Spark) industrial city will be in the hands of Amane Advisors

Amane Advisors has been awarded the contract to provide advisory services for the development of all water and wastewater facilities at the upcoming King Salman Energy Park (Spark) industrial city.

The city is located in the Eastern Province within an hour drive from the city of Dhahran, Saudia Arabia.

According to Trade Arabia, Spark is a fully integrated city in the process of becoming the leading gateway to the regional energy sector. This will include an industrial area, dry port and logistics zone, as well as “vibrant” residential, educational and commercial zones.

Over 70% of land for Phase One has been allocated and the city has attracted a number of investors, according to Trade Arabia. There is a $1.6 billion investment into Phase One, which is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2021.

The execution of the project is planned over three phases.

Spark is being set up by Energy City Development Company (ECDC). There are objectives to strengthen Saudi Arabia's position as a global energy hub, enhance energy supply chain reliability and to support economic development and job creation.

The city is targeting upstream oil and gas, downstream oil and gas, petrochemicals and power, according to Amane Advisors. The smart city will also host digital and innovation hubs.

The economic targets are to contribute $6 billion to Saudi Arabia's annual GDP and 100,000 direct and indirect jobs created at maturity, reported Trade Arabia.

According to Amane Advisors, the work includes helping to define Spark's strategy for developing and operating its entire water and wastewater infrastructure. Additionally, it will be a priority to ensure fair water purchase and wastewater treatment agreements and proper outlining of the terms of agreements for provision of utility services to tenants.
