>$35 million design/build/finance/operate project privatizes country's largest refinery's wastewater treatment plant

Earth Tech signed a contract with the Hungarian Oil & Gas Co., also known as MOL, to expand, upgrade and manage the wastewater treatment facilities at the Duna refinery in Szazhalombatta, near Budapest. The project has a collective construction cost of $35 million and Earth Tech will manage all of the wastewater assets and services at the refinery for 15 years.

Under the contract, Earth Tech will upgrade the existing wastewater treatment plant by installing new dissolved air flotation system, CASSTM biological treatment tanks, sludge handling and dewatering equipment, and other associated equipment. In addition, it will upgrade the oily sludge/solid waste rotary kiln incinerator and modify the refinery sewer system to segregate and reduce wastewaters entering the wastewater treatment plant.

Earth Tech will also undertake full responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system, wastewater treatment and waste incinerator and landfill site, including compliance with all licenses, permits and other regulatory requirements.

"Earth Tech assembled a team that brings together unique capabilities in management, design, construction and long-term operation of wastewater services to develop comprehensive, cost- and time-efficient solutions for the Hungarian Oil & Gas Company," said Diane C. Creel, president of Earth Tech. "This contract award demonstrates the added value Earth Tech offers to our customers with our full-service capabilities. We are very pleased to partner with MOL and we are committed to playing an active role in supporting the company's environmental efforts."

Earth Tech will employ the existing staff of approximately 45 employees currently responsible for the operation of the wastewater treatment system, the wastewater collection system and the waste incinerator.

The Duna refinery is the largest oil refinery in Hungary. The upgrades to the wastewater facilities are needed in order to meet European Union and Hungarian environmental legislation.
