CCWA Receives Several Major Awards

July 14, 2003

The Clayton County, Ga. Water Authority has received two honors that collectively reflect their dedication to professionalism and public service on the part of CCWA employees.

At the recent CCWA Board of Directors meeting, CCWA officials presented a number of honored departmental managers and employees with awards from both the Government Financial Officers Association and the Georgia Water & Pollution Control Association.

Frank Conort, manager of administration for the CCWA and his staff recevied this year?s GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award is given to those governmental and quasi-governmental organizations that exhibit extraordinary efficiency and professionalism in their record-keeping and reporting measures. The 2002 fiscal year is the 17th consecutive year the CCWA has received this nationally recognized certificate.

"Recognition of our staff makes all of the hard work worthwhile," said Conort, who plans to retire from his position this January. "As a public agency, we have a responsibility to keep the public informed on our financial status, and we take that job very seriously."

The CCWA was also honored for its Drinking Water Laboratory procedures by the GWPCA?the state trade organization that represents local water and wastewater service providers. Guy Pihera, manager of drinking water production for the CCWA, accepted the GWPCA Laboratory Quality Assurance Award on behalf of his staff.

The award rates drinking water laboratories on the quality of their organizations, equipment, data reporting and documentation, and safety procedures. Volunteer professional committees from the GWPCA annually inspect laboratories throughout the state to assess each on the guidelines and the CCWA was one of the laboratory facilities recognized as a model water utility lab throughout the state. This year?s award marked the fifth time in the past six years the CCWA has been duly recognized.
